Accessibility Statement
Open ADHD is committed to making our tools accessible and welcoming to everyone.
Our commitment
We believe that mental health tools should be available to everyone, regardless of ability. As a project focused on ADHD and neurodivergent experiences, we are especially mindful of designing for diverse cognitive and sensory needs.
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standard across our site.
Accessibility features
- Keyboard navigation — All interactive elements are accessible via keyboard, including the assessment questions, navigation menu, and results.
- Screen reader support — Semantic HTML, ARIA labels, and live regions ensure screen readers can announce assessment progress and results.
- Dark mode — A full dark mode reduces visual strain and is available via the toggle in the navigation bar.
- Color contrast — Text colors meet WCAG AA contrast ratios against their backgrounds.
- Reduced motion — Animations respect the
prefers-reduced-motionsystem setting. - Skip to content — A skip link is available for keyboard users to bypass the navigation.
- Focus indicators — Visible focus outlines on all interactive elements for keyboard and assistive technology users.
- Multi-language support — Available in English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean with proper
langattributes. - No data collection — The assessment runs entirely in your browser. No accounts, no tracking, no personal data transmitted.
Neurodivergent-friendly design
As a tool built for the ADHD community, we pay special attention to cognitive accessibility:
- • Clear, concise language throughout
- • One question at a time during the assessment to reduce overwhelm
- • Visual progress indicators to support task completion
- • Calming color palette designed to reduce visual stress
- • No time limits on the assessment
- • Results broken into manageable categories rather than a single score
Known limitations
We are continually improving. Currently known areas for improvement include:
- • The results chart visualization may not convey full detail to screen reader users
- • Some decorative animations may not fully respect reduced motion preferences in all browsers
Feedback
If you encounter any accessibility barriers or have suggestions for improvement, please reach out via our GitHub Issues page. We take all accessibility feedback seriously and aim to address issues promptly.
